5 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR KITCHEN ON A BUDGET

5/9/2019

We all know a kitchen remodel means major expense. But there’s no need to put up with a tired kitchen if you don’t have the time or budget for a complete overhaul.
In fact, there are simple ways to transform your kitchen for a fraction of the cost. Follow these tips to update your kitchen for a modern, luxury look.

1. Give your cabinets a facelift

Cabinets are easy to modernise without having to replace them: simply give them a new lick of paint. Use a specialist kitchen paint and the colour will stay vibrant over time. Coordinate with new drawer pulls and handles, available at minimal cost from any home décor store.

Or for a really chic look, why not get rid of the doors entirely and paint the interior of your shelves and cupboards? This opens up the room and gives you the chance to display any on-trend crockery and utensils.

2. Up your storage game

The kitchen is one of those rooms that tends to accumulate clutter over the years. Invest in new storage solutions that coordinate with your fixtures, and your kitchen will look more streamlined. Having everything you need in easy reach will make cooking more enjoyable, too. Think racks and hooks that utilize your kitchen’s vertical space and act as a display for pan sets and spices.

3. Create an accent wall

Painting a single wall of your kitchen a different colour is a fast and cost-effective way to make a big impact. Not sure what colour to use? A good rule of thumb is to go a couple of shades darker than the rest of the room. Why not get creative and enhance the look with shelving or wall art?
If you’ve more time to spare, you could choose patterned wallpaper instead. Graham & Brown has a great range of washable wallpaper in chic prints and metallics.

4. Coordinate your accessories

The devil is in the detail: treating yourself to new accessories and small appliances will make a big difference to your kitchen’s ambience. The key to creating a luxe look is choosing accessories that coordinate together.

Go for a certain theme, colour palette or pattern, even down to the tea towels and salt shakers. This will really lift the room and create a chic environment, without breaking the bank.

5. Invest in statement lighting

Lighting is often overlooked in kitchen design, but you don’t have to live with a harsh overhead light. Statement pendant lights add instant glamour to any kitchen. Most décor stores now offer a good range of inexpensive lighting fixtures, and you’re spoilt for choice online with specialist stores like Wayfair and Made.com
